St George's Cathedral is located at the very top end of St George's Mall next to the Company Gardens in central Cape Town.
The Cathedral, although having been started in August 1901 is as yet unfinished. The Cathedral was preceded by St George's Church which had opened for service in 1834.
St George's was defiant during the Apartheid years opening it's doors to "all people of all races at all times". It was also a place of protest with protest vigils and activism against the oppressive regime of Apartheid.
