West Coast Wild Flowers

A visit to the Cape in August and September merits a drive up the N7 and beyond to view the flowers on a sunny day.

Since the Cape is winter rainfall region, the amount of wild flowers on display in spring is largely dependent on the amount of rain during the winter season. The colours are predominantly white, yellow, orange and purple creating blankets of vibrant colour as far as the eye can see.

For striking flower viewing we recommend a drive to the West Coast National Park or even further to the small old town of Niewoudtsville with its beautiful church and churchyard. We would also suggest going off the beaten track along the R364. Although the road was a dirt road on our trip it was in good drivable condition.
