Namaqualand - West Coast

Namaqualand is popularly known for its spectacular wild flowers emerging from the barren land after the winter rains to soak up the warm South African sun. After the winter rains, the ground is covered in a carpet of vibrant coloured wild flowers for as long as the eye can see. The best time of the year, depending on the rains and sun, is from August to October.

The town of Nieuwoudtville has some of the best displays of flowers. Around the town church and on the backroad to Clanwilliam some spectacular carpets of yellow, orange, purple and red come up in the local fields to please the eyes.

Take your camera, water, hiking boots and enjoy natures' show on display in Namaqualand!
