Hout Bay - Cape Town

Hout Bay, or 'wood bay' as the name translates, is a suburb situated in a bay of the same name and was previously named Chapman's Chaunce. Hout Bay has a busy harbour at Mariner's Wharf and village with quaint shops and restaurants, try the fish here, and is about twenty km for the City of Cape Town. Whether you approach Hout Bay from Suikerbossie Hill or from Chapman's Peak, you are surrounded with great views of the sea and mountains. It is possible to take a boat ride from Hout Bay harbour to visit Seal Island, an island in the bay that is completely covered in seals.

Hout Bay is a great base to partake in scuba diving, horse riding, hiking, deep sea fishing or for a visit to the local Bird Park. The area is also the venue for the winter big wave surfing competition. Surfers from all corners of the globe descend on the bay hoping for the swell to come in for the adrenaline rush of riding monstrous waves.
