The Castle of Good Hope was built in 1678 serving as both a fortress and look
out point for boats and ships arriving in Cape Town. Today the Castle is the
country's oldest occupied building since part of it is still used for the
military. It is pentagon shaped and has five bastions. There are scheduled
guided tours around the Castle and the old dungeons providing visitors with
some background and history of the first settlers in the Cape of Good Hope.
