Arniston - Whale Route & Overberg

Arniston is a gorgeous little fishing village on the Indian Ocean dotted with white-washed thatched fishermen's cottages in the National Heritage village of Kassiesbaai. Stroll through the village to see the classic white seaside cottages the local fishing community calls home and local artists have used for inspiration. The turquoise warm waters of the Indian Ocean will keep you coming back for more.

The Waenhuiskrans tidal caves, wagon house, accessible at low tide, are a popular attraction as kids and adults alike enjoy the many tidal pools filled with oysters, mussels, small fish, urchins and anemones along the way.

Roman beach is the popular beach at the western end of the village and is ideal for children with gentle waters and plenty of rock pools and sand to keep them busy all day. The waves can however get decently big so keep an eye on the kids before going surfing or bodyboarding.

Shark beach or bay is a popular fishing beach just over the dunes from Roman Beach, with many locals trying their hand at catching the big one. It is accessible by foot and by 4x4 vehicle. Do not attempt to go down in a vehicle to shark beach unless you have full 4x4, you'll get stuck, this we guarantee.

Arniston has a hotel, a small shop, a campsite, a couple of restaurants and plenty of self-catering accommodation for visitors seeking a bit of peace and quiet along the ocean.
