Huguenot and Dutch farmers settled in Paarl in the late 17th century and is today renowned as the home of origin of the Afrikaans, where their culture and heritage are still preserved. Paarl is an obvious introduction to a tour of the many local wine-farming estates as it is the home of KWV, the national co-operative established in 1918. The cellars cover about 15hectares and can be visited during scheduled daily tours. Visits to local wine farms with wine tasting are included. Highlights include:
