Safety in Cape Town

Cape Town and it's surrounding areas are generally safe. It should however be noted that South Africa as a whole is a dangerous country. The following tips will help ensure your safety while in Cape Town.

Dial 10111 for Emergencies.
Be wary of approaching strangers.
Do not accept help from a stranger at an ATM. Preferably use an ATM in a busy public place during the day time hours.
Lock your doors at night.
Avoid walking around alone or in small groups at night.
Avoid stopping at petrol stations at night.
Do not go into townships unless accompanied by a qualified guide or recommended chaperon.
Do not carry large sums of money.
Do not display jewellery overtly.

These will help you enjoy a pleasant stay in Cape Town. The best way to be safe is to be aware and be careful.
