Krom River Hiking Trail

The Krom River hiking trail is a beautiful intermediate day trail in the Limietberg Nature Reserve. The complete trail should take close to 5 hours. Take some snacks, a lunch, water and a hat along with you.

The walk basically follows the Krom River banks all the way to a first waterfall before reaching a spectacular second waterfall and pool. The vegetation and wildlife are brilliant, particularly the various types of Proteas and birds fluttering about. Some parts of the walk are challenging, others, extra care need be taken as a high fall is not recommended while other parts are easy along flat sandy terrain. It's varied and not too strenous but is great exercise.

The river is also popular amongst trout fishermen. A fishing permit is required to fish these waters.

Access to the trail is restricted to those in possession of a permit from Cape Nature. Parking is available just before the entrance to the Huguenot Tunnel from the Worcester side. The parking can be accessed by also going over the old Dutoitskloof Pass.

The trail can be flooded in winter and may even be closed so walkers should take extra care or avoid the trail entirely in winter.
